BRAINSPORT - The Running Store LOGO BRAINSPORT TIMES
May.17.12

Another beautiful long weekend that was great to be out in and this week’s forecast is for hot weather to continue.  Maybe this year the sidewalk sale wont be a soakfest like it has been often.

BROADWAY STREET FAIR & SIDEWALK SALE

That’s right, this Saturday is the Broadway Street Fair and Sidewalk Sale.  We’ll have the big tents out front again full of lots of bargains.  Shopping begins at 9:30AM or as soon as staff remove the yellow Caution Tape.

CLINIC SCENE

Good luck to everyone running in the Queen City Marathon events this weekend.  Once you’ve done that, if you are interested in running in the Rock & Roll Las Vegas Marathon we still have room in the Tuesday night clinic aiming for it.

For you early birds there is also the Rise and Shine Clinic I mentioned last week in the TIMES.  Starting Tuesday, September 20 at 6:15AM an 8 week clinic for experienced runners, you don’t have to be fast but it is not a beginner workout.  Participants will meet with coach Brandi Pozniak at BRAINSPORT and head out for interval training for approximately an hour.  Upon returning to the store you will do a 15 minute core workout.

Now you are ready to face the day knowing you’ve already got a good workout in and you’re raring to go.

You can test your improved fitness at the Arthritis Society’s Jingle Bell Run on November 20.  Cost is $70 per person plus GST.

10 K Clinic - Starting Thursday, September 15 at 6:00 PM- Coached by Brandi Pozniak. Cost $100 plus GST.

Learn to Run Clinic -  Starting Wednesday, September 21 at 6:15 PM.  Coached by Kim German  Cost $70 plus GST.

DISNEYWORLD MARATHON CLINIC

Our friends at S3 Fitness Consulting &Conditioning Camps approached us about partnering with them on a running clinic to train for the Disneyworld Marathon in January 2012.  ZONE Sports Physiotherapy will act as consultant on this clinic as they do with all of our clinics.  The running clinic will be held at BRAINSPORT starting on Sunday, September 11 at 8AM and runs for 16 weeks.  Instructors will be Sandi Scissons and Jen Kripki.

Below is the link to the Conditioning Camp page on the S3 website which lists all of their camps including the Running Cinic on it's own plus the Disney Marathon Camp.  Just tab onto the Clinic to be taken into the information portion.

Clinic can be purchased on its own (through S3) or as part of the Disney Marathon Camp which includes the running clinic, yoga, and conditioning camps.  It is a co-ed camp and open to the general public so if you’ve thought of going to Disneyworld to run the half, the marathon, or the “Goofy” then consider this clinic for your training.

FALL RUNNING

September and October bring great running weather and there are still lots of events to enjoy.  I’m trying to keep this a short TIMES this week so here is a link to our Events Calendar http://www.brainsport.ca/events/calendar&year=2011&month=09 and don’t forget to check the Saskatoon RoadRunners website for information on all the events they have planned as well as the benefits to being an SRRA member.   www.saskatoonroadrunners.ca .  Speaking of SRRA have you seen the location of the future drinking fountain they are building in conjunction with Meewasin Valley Authority?  My wife and I were there on Saturday night along with many others watching the fireworks.  The location is by the Diefenbaker Centre and has a great view of the river valley.

WALKING CLUB REVIVAL

If you haven’t been out to Walk Club in awhile why not come back and join us.  Members meet with the runners in BRAINSPORT to see what’s happening then head off for a walk.  Runners, if you have a friend or spouse who feels left out while you are out having fun running, why not bring them out so they can get some fresh air and exercise and then join the group for supper afterwards.  Every Wednesday at 6PM rain or shine.

TRIGEAR SALE

We’ve decided to continue the sale of instock wetsuits and triclothing until Wednesday so that those Ironman competitors who were away can take advantage of it too.  I know a couple of them had wetsuit issues before the race in Penticton so might be thinking it’s time to replace theirs.

COACHING UPDATE

A couple of weeks ago we had an update from Mizuno sponsored athlete Carly Priebe.  Carly is in Beijing now with Canada's top paratriathletes as they prepare for the Triathlon World Championships.  When she returns she could be coaching you too.  Here is a link to her website www.transitionsportandfitness.ca .

Last year I hired a coach to help me prepare for Ironman Canada and I know a lot of you have done so as well.  There are some great coaches in our community as well as coaching our running clinics.  You can certainly train on your own but from my experience having a coach guide your training can make a huge difference in the outcome of your race.

ASBEL KIPROP WINS 1500M GOLD

Several years back, Brian travelled to Kenya with Jason Warick to meet and train with Kenyan athletes at Kip Keino’s training school.  Brian and the Waricks took some of your gently used shoes with them and fit runners who had no shoes or very badly worn shoes.  You can see pictures of some of them in our store.  While there, Brian fit a young Asbel Kiprop with a pair of size 12 Asics Landreth shoes donated by our former manager Kirby Wirchenko.  Asbel won Silver in the 1500m event in the 2008 Olympic Games and was later awarded Gold when the original winner was disqualified.  Asbel has now claimed gold at the World Championships in Daegu, South Korea.  Here is a link to an article on his performance

Not all of the shoes we collect go overseas but some certainly do and you never can tell what a difference those shoes might make to someone’s life, here or abroad.

Well that is the TIMES for this week - Gotta Run
