BIG NEWS FOR BROADWAY - Winners Announced in the Great Places in Canada Contest
From more than 6000 nominations and after four months of voting by people across the country, the winning locations in the first annual Great Places in Canada contest have been selected.
Our very own Broadway Avenue took third place in the “Great Streets” category.
The top locations are being honoured not only because of their popularity, but also
because they exemplify the highest standards of planning. To be judged a winner by the
panel of professional planners, the location had to meet certain criteria including:
• promoting social and economic activities
• having a memorable or unique character
• having design or architectural features that are visually interesting
• meeting different aspects of sustainability
• being accessible by different modes of transportation
• reflecting local culture, history, and landscape
Thanks to everybody that voted, and thanks to everybody that works and shops on Broadway, for making our neighbourhood so memorable.

VOLUNTEERS WANTED
Do you want to help out with the upcoming Saskatchewan Marathon, but aren’t available on the day? The marathon committee is looking for some volunteers to come out and help us deliver flyers to the houses directly affected by road closures during the marathon. 
We will be meeting on Tues. May 24th at 7pm at the MVA washrooms on Whiteswan Drive.  The more the merrier!  We go for a little run, delivering flyers along the way, and then all meet up for refreshments afterwards at Crackers.  It's a fun evening, and a great way to help out!  Hope to see lots of you out next Tuesday.  Any questions call Lynn Cushway at 227-7663, or email l.cushway@sasktel.net

Sunday, May 29 is the big one, the Saskatchewan Marathon put on by the Saskatoon Road Runners.  Learn all about it and register on line at http://www.saskmarathon.ca/ . I understand the course will be similar to last years. If you aren’t running in any of the events please consider volunteering, your help would be greatly appreciated.

Friday, June 3 there will be a Dinner Fundraiser for the Joy Home of Hope Orphanage in Uganda. It features an excellent Dinner by Chef Derrick from Alexander's restaurant and his team of wonderful chefs from Saskatoon Restaurants. Saturday, September 24 Miles for Smiles, this is a popular fundraiser for the Children’s Hospital Foundation of Saskatchewan. Held on the same weekend in both Saskatoon and Regina, it will be a 5k run/walk or half marathon in Saskatoon or a 5k run/walk in Regina.
