DAILY KICK IN THE BUTT

I’ve been getting the daily motivational emails from Runner’s World for a few months now and this one the other day really rang true for me.  Hope you like it.  If you want to get them just go to www.runnersworld.com and sign up.

Play not only keeps us young but also maintains our perspective about the relative seriousness of things. Running is play, for even if we try hard to do well at it, it is a relief from everyday cares.

BRAINSPORT IN NEPAL

Here is a message we got from Saskatoon Road Runner Association President Lorrie Dobni who recently made a trek to Nepal.  Thanks Lorrie.

Hi everyone,

Here are a few photos, from Nepal, of our guides and porters that are wearing the Brainsport shirts and the Sask Marathon shirts.  They especially loved the green Brainsport ones.  We gave them out to all 19 guides/porters on the first day we met them.  I didn’t see them wearing them on the trip and wondered if they didn’t like them.  The last day we were all together (the day of these photos) they were all wearing them.  It was a special day as we all had dinner together(a rare occasion as the porters don’t usually eat with the clients and the guides usually were serving us) and they sang and danced for us after.  This was also the last time we saw most of them.  It was a special day and they had saved their special new shirts for the occasion.  It was really cool!  What great people they are.

FRINGE FESTIVAL

The Fringe Festival is back July 28 to August 6 and parking restrictions begin each night at 6PM so those of you driving to Run Club on August 3 will need to allow time to get to the store for 6PM.  Here is more detail in a release from City of Saskatoon.

PARKING RESTRICTIONS IN THE BROADWAY AREA DURING THE FRINGE FESTIVAL

At the request of local residents, parking restrictions will again be in effect for the areas surrounding the Fringe Festival from Thursday, July 28 to Saturday, August 6. Only vehicles displaying the Fringe Festival Residential Parking Permit will be allowed to park on streets in the area from 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. during that time period.

Parking restrictions include the area bounded by:

·         Victoria Avenue;

·         Lansdowne Avenue;

·         Saskatchewan Crescent; and,

·         8th Street.

The section of 14th Street between Saskatchewan Crescent and Lansdowne Avenue is also included in the restricted area. Broadway Avenue is excluded from the restriction.

All vehicles parked on streets in the area and not displaying the Fringe Festival Residential Parking Permit during the event, with the exception of vehicles displaying a valid City of Saskatoon Disabled Parking Permit, will be issued a ticket for $50. Patrons of the Fringe Festival are encouraged to car pool or use public transportation.

These restrictions are in response to concerns from residents regarding traffic conditions, noise, littering, and lack of resident parking during the festival.

Well that is the TIMES for this week - Gotta Run
