POSSIBLE EVENT?
This one ran in a special edition of the TIMES on Friday April 1 sent to our web subscribers and Facebook friends. Yes it was an April Fool’s joke. There was some interest in it so who knows, maybe someday? Here is what we sent out.
We’ve been telling you for some time now about barefoot running. We’ve brought you the Vibram Five Fingers and recently the Minimus line of footwear from New Balance.
The Saskatoon Road Runners are planning a trail running series this summer and what could be more minimalist than running through nature.
We have taken this concept one step further by introducing to you first, the Emperor’s Line of running clothing. It is like running with nothing on, feel the sun warming your skin and summer breezes cooling you. What could be better than running through nature au natural?
The Emperor’s Line of running clothing will be unveiled at our newest event - the Naturalist 5K, date soon to be announced. In the meantime we are looking for a self confident and daring race director to iron out a few kinks and get this event up and running. In line with the minimalist concept this will be a minimalist event. Run free, no fees, no souvenir shirts, no limits. See and be seen at this revealing event.
If this position is of interest you, email Brian at brainsport@brainsport.ca with subject Naked Running.
RUN CLUB LEADERS
Thank you to everyone who steps forward and leads our groups, we can’t do it without you. Over the years I’ve spoken with people who have run in groups in other cities and consistently I’m told how our group runs are the best as we stick together rather than get strung out leaving some to run on their own. Some notes to leaders and followers alike.
Leaders need to make sure the group is together and to make sure everyone is safe. We have great trails ( when they aren’t icy ) to run on so let’s avoid busy streets as much as possible. Run facing traffic and announce vehicles and other obstacle approaching. Cross streets only when safe to do so as a group. The leader sets the pace according to the group chosen, please note the paces on our registration forms. Please choose a group that you can run comfortably with. Those in the middle and behind, please communicate to others if someone is dropping behind or vehicle, etc. approaching from behind. Please take a turn leading, it can be fun and rewarding.
